SAN PEDRO
San Pedro de Alcántara is situated along Costa del Sol, just 10 km from Marbella and 20 km east for Estepona. Just a few minutes drive away from the coast is the natural beauty of the Sierra de Ronda. San Pedro was famous for its sugar cane production. Today San Pedro is a first class tourist resort, home to a number of luxury housing complexes, golf courses and excellent beaches, while still retaining features of its colonial past. Close to the city you will find the Roman Baths called Las Bovedas that were built in the third century. The Paleochristian Basilica which dates back to the 4th century is definitely worth a visit. You will find it close to the Bora Bora Beach Club. In the centre, by the central plaza, is a beautiful church. You will also find lots of small shops, sidewalk cafes and bars in the narrow streets around the plaza. Every Thursday there is a market, where you can find all kinds of things. From the centre of town you can walk down the Avenida del Marques de Duero, an attractive avenue flanked in palm trees, to the beach front. The beach promenade is charming with lots of excellent chiringuitos, beach bars, that serves fish and other dishes. A very popular venue with the local population is the Bora Bora Beach Club, which serves excellent food and drinks which can be enjoyed while literally sitting on the beach. The beach in San Pedro is nearly 5 km long. They offer jet-skiing in Cable Ski Marbella, pedalos, showers, sun beds and a play area for the youngsters. You will also find several beach bars and restaurants. The sand is a little stony, but clean and plentiful.
